Specialty Camps 2017

Specialty Camps 2017

Specialty Camp programs combine all the activities of Resident Camp with a focus on one particular activity for part of the day. These all have limited enrollment, so don’t wait too long!

Ranch

Grades 7 and up

Ranch

Participants will spend a portion of their day on our working ranch learning horse care and riding techniques. Each will be given their own horse to ride and care for under the close supervision of our staff. Lessons, ring work, trail rides, games and special events will fill your week. Riding lessons will take place "in the ring" and "on the trail" to help the camper learn the ways of a horse and develop confidence and riding skills. There is also ample time to enjoy all the other activities at Anokijig.

Circle-A Riders

Grades 4 through 6

Circle-A Riders

Grades 4 through 6

This program is for younger campers who want to spend their time with our horses. Just as with the Ranch program, these campers will get to go on trail-rides, play games, and learn how to take care of these beautiful animals. Circle-A is held in the afternoons, so these campers will get to attend morning skill periods, too!

Have you ever watched one of the dozens of Survivor-like shows on the air and said, “I could do that!” Now is your chance! “Barrel Boat Building”, “Human Foosball”, “Fire hose Lanyards”, and “4-Way Tug-O-War”, are just a few of the events that have thrilled Adventure Challenge Campers in the past. Any of these and more awaits your arrival. If you crave excitement, and are ready to be challenged both mentally and physically, you won’t be disappointed.
Plus, when not on a challenge, you can enjoy the activities of Resident Camp.

This is an exciting one-of-a-kind opportunity for the budding hunter, weekend plinker, or future clay shooter enthusiast. Spend your mornings at The Highlands Sportsman’s Club, just a short bus ride from Anokijig. Designed for the novice shooter, you’ll learn safe, effective target shooting with .22 Rifle, 5-stand clay shooting, and Sporting Clays. Individual instruction from our team of 3 experienced instructors will get you the skills to succeed in this sport. All shooting sports instruction takes place at the off-site location, however when not at the range, you can enjoy all of the other great activities of Resident Camp.

Fishing Expeditions

Grades 6 and up
Fishing Expeditions I

Fishing Expeditions

This is an exciting program that will be filled with variety, adventure, and a fishing good time. We will learn to fly fish and then travel to a premier trout area where we always catch our dinner. We’ll night fish from a pontoon boat or in our private fishing hole looking for Northern, Bass, and Pan Fish. Experience using a variety of baits, both live and artificial while trying new techniques. We will fish from shore, docks, and boats. Then top off the week with a Lake Michigan Charter trip (weather permitting) to bring home the real big ones. If you like to fish or want to learn, this will be the highlight of your summer. Come get hooked. Plus, when not wetting your line, you can enjoy the activities of Resident Camp.

Competitive Swim Camp

Grades 3 through 9

Competitive Swim Camp

This program combines all of the activities of Anokijig with an added focus on the sport of competitive swimming. Designed for current (YMCA or U.S.S.) age-group competitive swimmers, activities include approximately two hours per day at a local pool practicing stroke techniques, starts, and turns. Each of the four competitive swimming strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) will be addressed. Swimmers are videotaped at each pool session and an hour at camp each morning is dedicated to slow motion review of technique and coaching to improve for the next session and beyond. Plus, when daily swim instruction is done you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy all of the activities of Resident Camp.
